How to Add Tabs to File Explorer in Windows

Even if adding tabs to Windows Explorer has been one of the most popular features that have been requested for, Microsoft still hasn’t delivered.

But you don’t have to wait for them to deliver – you can use the Clover 3 extension which works on all versions of Windows. Yes, even Windows 10 too.

Why tabs, you might ask?

If you need to open another File Explorer window, you don’t have to open a new window altogether. Best part: If you do want a second window, then all you have to do is open a tab and separate the two until you have two separate windows.

autschBut there’s a downsides to using Clover on Windows 10, at least. For starters, Clover 3 will change the File Explorer’s menus. Both the Home and Share options will disappear while the Computer menu option will be added from Windows 8.

Not surprisingly, when you do open File Explorer, you will find a Clover icon instead of a File Explorer icon in the taskbar.

Apart from this, Clover will automatically open a new window which will display the “This PC” view instead of Quick Access which is how it is in Windows 10. No need to panic – Quick Access is still there, of course.

So, if you’re fine with these issues, then Clover 3 can be a great option to get tabs in File Explorer. In order to download it, visit Ejie.me. You will have to extract the ZIP folder and run the .exe file as you would any other any other program made for Windows.

After this, open File Explorer and you should find the ability to use tabs.
